Family Thread comes from the team behind MV Learning and McKinney-Vento.org — people who have spent years supporting the educators, liaisons, and caseworkers who serve families in crisis.
Our Story
Through MV Learning and McKinney-Vento.org, our team has worked alongside McKinney-Vento liaisons, student-support teams, and community caseworkers — the people responsible for helping families navigate housing instability and everything that comes with it.
We have seen how much time skilled people lose to paperwork, disconnected systems, repeated intake, and follow-up. Families retell their story at every door. Workers spend evenings on documentation instead of on people. Needs that could be solved get lost between handoffs.
We built Mira to give that time back — to families and to the people who serve them.
How the Pieces Fit
The Assistant
Mira is the AI casework assistant. She helps families understand their choices and work through next steps, and helps trained professionals with intake, resource research, action plans, documentation, and follow-up. People remain in control of decisions, approvals, and sensitive actions.
The Platform
Family Thread gives Mira a secure, consent-based memory of the family's situation, goals, documents, referrals, and progress. The family controls what gets shared. Authorized workers can see the context they need without asking the family to start over.
Mira helps families keep moving. Family Thread keeps their story, plan, and progress from getting lost.
Where We Come From
Our team's background is in McKinney-Vento work — the federal program that protects the educational rights of children and youth experiencing homelessness. Through MV Learning and McKinney-Vento.org, we support the professionals who carry out that work every day.
That experience shapes everything about how Mira and Family Thread are built: consent first, people in control, and respect for the families and frontline workers at the center of the work.
